33 Weeks – Again!

Kristy at 33 Weeks (again)

Since Baby Gray’s due date was moved awhile back and I have been consistently measuring in line with the later date, we decided to make the weekly posts align with the July 17th due date (instead of July 10th) – so here I am again at 33 weeks!

33 Weeks

This week I weight just over 4 pounds and have passed the 17-inch mark – about the size of a pineapple (una piña). I am busy concentrating on weight gain now and will gain about 5-9 oz. per week from this point on!  My brain is growing rapidly, which caused my head to grow 3/8 inch this week.  My skin is also changing in color as fat begins to accumulate beneath its surface.

Mom is feeling good this week – definitely noticing that she is hungry more often.  It has been hard for her to concentrate on wrapping things up at school and preparing to be a mom.  She is looking forward to moving to MI next week so that she can spend her time getting things ready for me!

CHS Baby Shower!

After school today the foreign language department and several of my co-workers threw me a ‘pink’ baby shower!  We enjoyed jasmine tea, lavendar shortbread cookies (so good!), cucumber sandwiches, and other goodies and opened gifts for the baby.  It was so nice to get together with friends to celebrate this special time – and I was touched by how much time and coordination went into the event.  Thanks to everyone!

Celebrating with Friends

Congratulations Bill!

This past weekend we celebrated Bill’s graduation from the Darden School of Business.  The weekend was full of events like the Friday evening reception, Saturday afternoon pig roast, and the UVA and Darden commencement ceremonies on Sunday.  It was a celebratory weekend that allowed us to enjoy our friends one last time while in Charlottesville.  We never expected to make such good friends when we moved here two years ago and have every intention to see each of them in the upcoming months!

Bill and Judy were in town for the festivities and we made sure to get the best possible seats to watch Bill get his diploma.  He was one of 6 graduates to receive the C. Stewart Sheppard Distinguished Service Award for blogging, the carbon offset initiative, and laying the foundation for a student operations group (and the only student to receive the reward 2 years in a row).  Way to go Bill!

Nesting?

Packing!Last week Bill drove a 26 foot U-Haul truck to Michigan with all (or most) of our belongings.  We spent the previous days packing up our things and Bill left Tuesday morning at 5am for Birmingham.  He spent Wednesday and Thursday unpacking the house and getting things ready for our final move on the 30th.  In the meantime we are living in our townhouse with scarce belongings:  a bed, basic kitchen items, and some clothing.  This at a time when I am supposed to be nesting (I like to refer to this time as reverse nesting)!

I am really looking forward to the final move so that we can get everything ready for the baby.  Thank goodness for Bill & Judy who already painted the nursery and have spent time on a few household odds and ends!  I’m hoping that the pre-baby energy comes over me just as we make the move so that we can get the house ready quickly and have some time to really enjoy one another.  Just a few loose ends to tie up at school and it will be time to say goodbye to C’Ville.  Sad  🙁

32 Weeks

This week I weigh almost 4 pounds and measure 17 inches long – about the size of a jicama (un jícama).  My sleeping and waking patterns are more distinct.  In fact, this past week I have been waking mom up with my strong kicks.  At one point my kicks were so hard that she wondered whether or not she could be having contractions!

About half of the weight mom is gaining (almost a pound a week) is going directly to me.  I now have toenails, fingernails, and real hair, and my skin is becoming soft and smooth.  Mom is definitely noticing the toll the weight gain is taking on her feet and legs at night and is a bit awkward when bending over, but overall is feeling great!

This week I measure 16 inches long and weigh just over 3 pounds – about the size of four navel oranges (naranjas)!  Now some of the amniotic fluid has been removed to make room for me and mom can feel my movements more frequently and intensley.  I can turn my head from side to side and every limb of my body is preparing for an upcoming growth spurt.  My brain is growing faster than ever. The brain cells are increasing at a rate of 100,000 cells a minute and 70% of the calories I get are used for brain growth.  Mom is being extra careful to keep healthy amounts of omega 3’s and iron in her diet.  Filet for dinner tonight and salmon tomorrow!

Mom is feeling very lucky because she is sleeping really well and feels good all around, although she gets out of breath more often and her legs and feet feel a big achy after a long day of work.  Dad has promised plenty of food massages during their last two weeks in Charlottesville!
