32 Weeks

This week I weigh almost 4 pounds and measure 17 inches long – about the size of a jicama (un jícama).  My sleeping and waking patterns are more distinct.  In fact, this past week I have been waking mom up with my strong kicks.  At one point my kicks were so hard that she wondered whether or not she could be having contractions!

About half of the weight mom is gaining (almost a pound a week) is going directly to me.  I now have toenails, fingernails, and real hair, and my skin is becoming soft and smooth.  Mom is definitely noticing the toll the weight gain is taking on her feet and legs at night and is a bit awkward when bending over, but overall is feeling great!

Kicking Like Crazy

Baby has been kicking like crazy over the last couple days. Kristy is now in the habit of yelling across the house “come quick, baby’s kicking”. I’ve been pretty good at hustling along and arriving in time for the tail end of a good kick session.

Our friends recently found out that they were feeling punches rather than kicks. We shall find out ourselves in just over a week.

Kristy wanted me to add that she felt three especially strong kicks. Oh, and baby prefers reading to the Oscars.

Kick Baby, Kick!

Bill felt the baby kick last night for the first time!!  This past week and a half I have been feeling the kicking regularly.  Usually I feel it at night when I am lying in bed – sometimes in the morning as well.  Last night we were watching the movie August Rush together when the baby started kicking.  I put Bill’s hand on my belly and waited, but nothing happened.  A minute later Bill felt something but I had to explain that it wasn’t the baby (there’s lots of stuff going on down there!).  He was disappointed and pulled his hand away.

Later we were reading in bed when I felt the kicks again, and this time Bill could feel the baby right away!  I’m not quite sure how I know when it’s the baby and when it’s not because the feeling is still quite faint, but I guess mom’s just know this kind of thing!

A Beating Heart

Bill and I had our monthly doctor visit on Friday.  We could not be happier with Dr. Wolanski – too bad he probably won’t be the one delivering our baby!

During the visit we heard the baby’s heartbeat for the first time:  a healthy 135 bpm!  We tried to hear it with the doppler several weeks ago but it was too early, and the volume was not on during the last ultrasound we had.  What an amazing sound…

Dr. Wolanski assured me (for the fourth time) that in my case there is no reason to worry about weight gain.  He told me to expect a total weight gain between 16 and 22 pounds due to my size and build, and not to worry about tracking my weight (which I have been doing every morning) as long as I am eating the right foods.  He also said that I might not ‘show’ for awhile because of my long torso.  This is slightly frustrating for me because I’m ready to show the world that, yes indeed, I’M PREGNANT!!!  🙂

Coming Up:

  • Movement:  I have indeed felt the baby move but this sensation will get stronger and more obvious every day.  In a few weeks Bill should be able to feel the baby!
  • 22 week ultrasound scheduled for March 5th (Boy or Girl?)

Week 16

Avocado

Un Aguacate

Today Mom is 16 weeks into her pregnancy. I am now about the size of an avocado (un aguacate),  measure 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump), and weigh 3 1/2 ounces. My toenails have started growing and my heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day.

If mom hasn’t already felt me move, she should sometime within the next four weeks. According to babycenter, mom should also be feeling less nausea, fewer mood swings, and will have ‘glowing’ skin that contributes to an overall sense of well-being.

Poking Around

Una Manzana

Una Manzana

¡Hola!  I am about the size of an apple (una manzana) now and am busy moving about.  Mom has felt some unusual ‘pings’ the past few days and is still trying to figure out whether or not it’s me.  She will definitely feel me poking around in the next few weeks – I keep reminding her to be patient!
