Personality Explosion

The past few weeks we have noticed some big, fun changes in Lilly’s personality.  She is much more ‘vocal’ about her likes and dislikes, even though we can’t always figure out what she is trying to say!  Now when she wakes up she immediately stand up and points to a book on her bookshelf.  If we don’t pick her up and read the book of her choosing right away she gets very upset!  Too cute…can’t wait to see what her second year will bring.

Father’s Day!

We celebrated a particularly wonderful Father’s Day this past weekend.  We spent most of our time outdoors enjoying the sunshine with Lilly.  Saturday we went downtown for the River Days Festival.  Sunday we ran the Run for the Ribbon 5K at the zoo (see below), went to our Goldfish swim class, had some fun in the sandbox, and grilled outside.  Another busy weekend in the Gray household – so much fun!

Run for the Ribbon

This morning we ran the Run for the Ribbon for prostate cancer at the Detroit Zoo. It was a beautiful day for the run and I beat my time from last month by another minute. We didn’t actually run through the zoo like we were hoping, but we still plan to participate again next year. A great event!

Lilly at 11 Months

Lilly is 11 months old today!

Welcome, Tevin Lawrence Sessoms!

Lilly’s newest cousin, Tevin Lawrence Sessoms, was born yesterday at 11:40 pm, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces and 19 inches long.  We can’t wait to meet him!

‘Walking’

Our master crawler/climber decided to take off running with her push toy today. Maybe she’ll walk one day, after all! 🙂

Signing

Lilly has been consistently signing ‘milk’ and most recently began to use her own version of ‘all done’.  We’ve been signing with her since she was 6 months old and are amazed with what she is picking up now.  She is definitely working on other cognitive skills and is pointing, clapping, and waving all the time.  Yesterday we took a walk around the neighborhood and stopped to look at the various things that Lilly would point to.  She isn’t too interested in reaching any new ‘physical’ milestones like walking, but she sure is taking off in other ways!

Separation Anxiety

Lilly seems to be experiencing some separation anxiety. About 4 weeks ago Bill and I took her to the childcare center at a yoga studio so we could get some exercise.  Lilly was one of two kids in the room and I felt comfortable with the young woman who was watching them.  About 20 minutes into the practice she came to get me because Lilly was so upset.  The second I walked in the room I started to cry because I had NEVER seen her that upset.  We didn’t want to give up on the childcare/yoga option so I tried again a few days later.  This time she started crying the second I left the room – and she repeated this behavior at the gym daycare.

We have decided to hire a nanny to watch Lilly one day a week for a few hours and on occasional Friday/Saturday evenings.  We’re hoping that Lilly adjusts to this change and begins to enjoy Katherine.  Meanwhile, I’m still going to try to take her to the childcare centers at the gym/yoga and hope that she gets over this soon.  Thankfully she does great with her daddy and grandmothers!
