With the help of or wonderful friends, Lilly’s ‘Thorne Nature’ bug hunting birthday party was a huge success! The kids made seed planter necklaces, went on a bug hunt in the marsh (it was HOT but everyone was in good spirits), designed their own bugs, and snacked on strawberry shortcake cake, fruit, and worms in dirt. We had fun putting together gift bags for everyone and Lilly had a great time with her friends. Thanks to all who made it out to celebrate with us!

Our sweet ‘Lilly bear bean butterfly inchworm’ turned 5! At 5 years old she is quite the explorer and outdoor enthusiast. She loves to ride her bike, swim, carry tools around on hikes and bug hunts, complete science experiments, and bake in the kitchen. She is making close friendships and learning what it means to be a friend. Lilly generally wakes early, around 6:15 or 6:30, and crawls in bed with us for a bit. At bed time (and after ‘family bed time’) she is content in her room by herself for up to an hour flipping through books and stories. She is often influenced to play mermaids or princess dressup by her sister, but otherwise has zero interest in this. Lately she is less interested in art and more interested in nature and science. If I were to guess at a career path for her at this point, I think she’d make an excellent architecht, but we’ll let her figure that one out on her own. 🙂
We celebrated with a birthday hike and bug hunt at Chautauqua, lunch at Noodles & Co, cake baking and decorating, and dinner and presents when Bill returned home from work. Her most prized gifts were a very special Wizard of Oz book from Todd, Jess, and Nora, and a new purple Specialized bike from Nana & Boppa and Grandma & Grandpa! Thanks to all who made this such a special day.

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating Todd, Jessica, and Nora at their Sunday wedding in Laguna Beach. After our trip to Michigan last week we were concerned that the quick weekend trip might be a bit much for the girls but they had a blast and we are so glad that we were able to be there in support of Todd & Jess.
We arrived Friday and spent the afternoon at Jessica’s brother’s house in Long Beach, complete with the girls first official visit to the ocean. My parent’s hosted a nice family dinner at the Westin that evening, where the cousins serenaded Todd & Jessica with songs from ‘Frozen’. Sunday we headed to Laguna Beach for the ceremony and lunch celebration, followed by plenty of beach time. Lilly and Robin had a blast playing in the waves and tide pools with their cousins. A wonderful, whirlwind weekend, congrats to Todd and Jessica!

Wow. I was hesitant to sign L up for the Boulder Performing Arts camp to perform ‘The Wizard of Oz’ but I am SO glad that I did! L did the camp with Anna and she had an absolute blast! She played the parts of Munchkin #2, the tornado, and Flying Monkey #1 🙂 and absolutely nailed her parts. Ever since the show she continues to sing all of the songs and recite other people’s parts from the play. What a learning experience it was for her! And so much fun for us to watch her shine.

Happy 34th, B! We loved spending the evening celebrating with you! XO
34th Bday photos
It was a beautiful week at Nipigon! The girls had a blast playing in the water, collecting fossils, feeding Robert the chipmunk, celebrating the 4th Michigan-style, and spending time with the family. We couldn’t have asked for a better week. Our ‘roses’ were paddle boarding with Nana, boat rides with Boppa, evening conversations on the front porch while the kids were sleeping, trip to Mackinac Island, and celebrating Nana Peggy’s 90th Birthday! Many thanks to Bill and Judy for being pheonomenal hosts and for throwing a bbq for all of our MI friends when we were back in Bloomfield for the night. It was so nice to catch up with everyone and we look forward to our next visit!
