Lean on me

As Lilly is approaching 9 months she is definitely showing more of an attachment for me.  During classes she has always been a careful observer and done her own thing, but lately she hovers over me.  Earlier in the week she seemed a bit ‘off’ (pretty sure her top teeth are coming in) and surprised me by putting her head in my lap and relaxing for several minutes, which she has NEVER done (always on the go).  She also seems to be experiencing separation anxiety – at times she cries when I leave the room and she needs to be consoled more when I put her to sleep.  I have to admit that I LOVE this milestone.  I also hope that that the separation anxiety doesn’t get too much worse.

In Memory of Great Grandma Anne

My grandmother passed away today at the age of 93.  She had hip surgery last week and did not come out of it well.  She seemed to be doing very well earlier in the week but was transferred to hospice on Friday afternoon.  I was very fortunate to see her Friday morning in one of her last lucid states.  She told me over and over that she loved me and called me her ‘sweet girl’, which she often did.  I was very close to my grandmother.  We had a special relationship and it was difficult to watch her struggle these past four years.  I know that she is in a better place now.

Fun with Grandma

My mom is in town for the week.  Here is a video of us doing the chicken dance with Lilly on Sunday night!

I’m pretty sure she thinks Grandma and I are a bit ‘coo-coo’!  🙂

Lilly at 8 Months

Lilly is 8 months old today! She is crawling, climbing, pulling herself up, pulling things down, falling down – quite the little handful! She LOVES being outside and seeing other kids in playgroup and at the playground. We walk to the park around the corner every day and Lilly has lots of fun in the swing watching the other children. Seems like she’s ready to take off and play with the boys!

Finger Foods

We started Lilly on finger foods this week.  She enjoys the rice puffs and will eat those but mostly plays with the rest of the foods we give her.  I thought feeding her solid foods was messy when we started with rice cereal but it’s a whole lot messier now!  So far she has tried small pieces of avocado, tofu, bananas, peaches, and bread.  Watch her in action:

Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma…

When Lilly got up from her afternoon nap she began saying “ma” repeatedly.  She’s said “ma” and “ma ma” for awhile now, but not like this.  She was very pleased with herself and I’m pretty sure it wen’t on for 2 hours straight this evening.  Now we just have to teach her to say “da da”!   🙂

First Trip to the Zoo!!

"Hello little girl"

"Hello, little girl"

"What is THAT!?"

"What is THAT!?"

Lilly’s first trip to the zoo was a big success!  We met up with some friends from the Beaumont Mom’s Group this afternoon.  It was a beautiful, sunny day and so much fun to get out with the girls and babies.  Lilly seemed very intrigued with the giraffes, who were equally interested in her.  I look forward to many more trips to the zoo and plan to buy an annual pass at our next visit.

Sleeping/Sitting

Lilly’s afternoon naps have been quite interesting lately.  After reading and singing together I put her down at the same time each day, and now she takes up to a full hour to fall asleep – usually while sitting up!  I think she’s waiting for me to come back in so it may be a bit of separation anxiety, but she doesn’t cry for more than a minute or so.  Just sits there talking and playing with the breathable bumpers.  I think she’d be a bit more comfortable if she were lying down – hopefully she will learn soon!!!

Fun in the Car

Cat Chase

Poor Roary never thought that Lilly could catch up with her.  Those days are over!
