Today we took Lilly to see her very first movie: The Muppets! Uncle Mark, Leela, Jason, and Grandma joined us while Bill stayed home with Robin. Lilly enjoyed her popcorn and seemed fairly interested in the movie – she was quiet until the very end when she got upset because she dropped her last Skittle on the floor (her kids combo came with a small bag of Skittles) and I took her home a few minutes early. On the way out she told me that she prefers Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to The Muppet Movie (‘Mommy, that movie wasn’t good. I like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse much better.’). Big surprise. 🙂
Sometimes it’s okay for adults to have a little bit of fun, too. Yesterday we had our third annual ‘siblings night out’ with Todd, Mark & Pinata, Jason, and Billy. In the afternoon we went to the Musical Instrument Museum in Scottsdale. My parents highly recommended this place and we were a bit skeptical but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Each person is given a set of headphones and the museum is broken into regions geographically so when you step in front of an exhibit music of the region starts playing along with a video of musicians, etc. Downstairs was a gallery where you can play various instruments and an exhibit on more popular, current musicians. Afterwards we drove to an indoor trampoline park called SkyZone – so much fun. We had 30 minutes of free play including trampoline dodgeball and a large foam pit and we were all exhausted and sweaty when our time was up. From there we went to the Saddle Ranch Chophouse for some drinks and we all took turns riding the mechanical bull. What a great way to celebrate being together!
We arrived in Arizona Friday evening and have had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas with family. The entire Sessoms clan has been in town (including Uncle Bill, Billy, Jason, Aunt Terry, and Gary – Mary arrives Tuesday) since Saturday. Lilly was very excited about the visit from Santa Claus and had fun with her stocking and gifts on Christmas morning (she especially loved her kaleidoscope and Leela’s guitar). We had brunch with the family and a lengthy gift exchange – Lilly was easily distracted by her new toys and Robin was happy as can be crawling around in the discarded wrapping paper and ribbons. Lilly and Leela have been playing together really well – so fun to watch them. It was 70 degrees and sunny and we have been having so much fun catching up with everyone. We’re really looking forward to having two more weeks here. Merry Christmas!

We celebrated Christmas a bit early with Nana, Boppa, Nana Peggy, Uncle Mick, Aunt Martha, Uncle Jack, and Gordon. Yesterday afternoon we went over to Nana and Boppa’s and had a wonderful time exchanging gifts with everyone. We were a bit overwhelmed with all of the presents (didn’t even have the chance to open all of them) and the girls nap times made our time together too short but it was wonderful to be together. Lilly had fun playing with new toys and directing people around and Robin, who was a bit sleep deprived, had plenty of smiles and laughs to share. We had a nice dinner and spent most of our evening organizing the gifts and making lists of what we were given. We were so thankful that everyone (except Jessica, who was missed) was able to celebrate early with us. Lilly says, “thank you, Santa Claus!”

In keeping with the song, ‘All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth’, Robin got her Christmas wish early! She finally sprouted her first teeth today (the bottom two – one is more visible than the other). She woke and immediately put her tongue to work trying to figure out what was going on inside her mouth. She’s been working on those teeth for months so I’m glad they’ve finally made their appearance!
Perhaps it’s no coincidence at all that this past week has not been her best for sleep. Her morning nap has been much shorter and it’s harder to get her to go down for her afternoon nap. She’s going through that glorious period where she stands up in her crib but doesn’t have the coordination to sit down yet so she’ll cry until I go back in and lay her down. Fortunately we’ve been through this with Lilly so I know it will pass soon. Fingers crossed!
Both girls love dancing around the house to Christmas music. Robin gets so excited that she bounces up and down on your hip and cries with her arms in the air (a signal to pick her up) if you put her down. This morning we were singing ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ and Lilly immediately changed the lyrics to, ‘All I want for Christmas is PRESENTS’!! 🙂 Lilly knows the lyrics to several Christmas songs, her favorite being ‘Jingle Bells’.
Here’s a video of L singing her own version of Jingle Bells at lunch today.
Here’s a video of Robin showing off her new moves – one handed!
Lilly loves telling stories that begin, ‘once upon a time’. At school the kids sit in a circle and tell stories after nap time. Lilly’s stories often have to do with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is the only show she will watch on television. Here is a story that she told me today (with no prompting or interruptions): “Mommy, I’m gonna tell you a story. It goes, once upon a time, I went for a walk on the moon. It was a sunny day. It (the moon) had stripes, and polka dots, and horses, and lions. The end.”
At times she confuses ‘asking a question’ with ‘telling a story’. She’ll say, “I’m going to ask you a question” and then procede to tell a story or vice versa. She has quite the imagination!
Lilly is a real ball of energy, which is somewhat of a mystery considering she hardley eats anything :). Here is a video of what has become a regular post-dinner activity: being chased by Lilly around the house. She’s fast!
*You are not having a stroke, this video is sideways…which reminds me that we should be using the expensive video camera we bought instead of our iPhones!
